The short version: SpeakSmart processes your voice recordings entirely on your device. Audio never leaves your phone. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or store it on external servers. The only data we collect is what's strictly needed to provide subscriptions and show relevant ads.

Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the app's features. Here's exactly what that means:

📊
Session Data

Scores, duration, word counts, and speech metrics from your practice sessions. Stored only on your device.

🔑
Account Info

If you sign in with Google: your name, email address, and profile photo — used to link your subscription.

💳
Purchase Records

Subscription status and transaction IDs from Google Play or Apple App Store. We never see your payment details.

📱
Device Info

OS version, device model, and a random ad identifier — only if you are on the free tier with ads enabled.

Microphone & Audio Processing

SpeakSmart requires microphone access (RECORD_AUDIO) solely to transcribe your speech during practice sessions. This permission is the core function of the app.

Permission Why It's Needed Status
RECORD_AUDIO Microphone access Live speech transcription during practice sessions using on-device speech-to-text REQUIRED
INTERNET Network access Subscription verification, authentication, and serving ads to free users REQUIRED
BILLING In-app purchases Processing Pro subscriptions and one-time purchases via Google Play REQUIRED
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Device startup Restoring daily reminder notifications after device reboot OPTIONAL

🎙 Audio is never recorded as a file, uploaded, or transmitted. The microphone stream is passed directly to Android's built-in SpeechRecognizer API (on-device). Raw audio is discarded immediately after transcription. Only the resulting text transcript is stored, locally on your device.

How We Use Information

Your data is used for the following purposes — nothing else:

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, sell to third parties, or train AI/ML models.

04 —

Data Storage & Security

All session data — transcripts, scores, metrics, and history — is stored in a local SQLite database on your device. This data is not backed up to any external server by default.

If you sign in with Google, your account information is stored in Firebase Authentication. Firebase is a Google service governed by Google's privacy policy and is operated on infrastructure that complies with ISO 27001, SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 standards.

🗑 Deleting your account from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) permanently removes all locally stored data and delinks your Google account. Subscription records held by Google Play or Apple are governed by their respective policies.
